The Nature Environment and Wildlife Society conducts health camps in different locations of Sunderban. These villages lack the minimal medical infrastructural facilities . We started these medical camps to give medical support to people. This also helped us in spreading environmental awareness and educating the local villagers on alternative means of livelihood and lessen their dependence on the forest and biotic interference in the forest.
We started our first camp at the Kakmari Bazar in 2003 with a handful of field workers and doctors. Since then we have had 68 medical camps till date and the number of villagers attending these camps have grown sizably. Thus we now have a full team for these camps going to the area in the last week of every month.
The camps have been spread over the fringe villages in the Sunderbans in the last three years.

At the present time we are continuing with the camps at Kakmari Bazar and Dulki. The camps take place in the last weekend of every month. In Kakmari Bazar the camp is held in a primary school. In Dulki houses of villagers have been designated for the camps. With the help of the eco-development committees the camps are announced in advance. Thus a large number of villagers are aware of this and are prepared to come in from the morning. The camp in Parasmoni starts towards the afternoon and continues till the evening. The camp in Dulki takes place in the morning till the evening. We also arrange for the treatment in Kolkata hospitals if required.
In our work in the Sunderbans we have noticed that the common ailments affecting the people are worms, ameobiosis, bronchitis, skin diseases, asthma, malnutrition, iron deficiency etc.
