NEWS along with Kolkata Municipal Corporation organized a one day plantation event “For A Green Kolkata – An EY Foundation Initiative”at Sil Maidan, Tangra, Kolkata, on 22nd August 2015 with a motto of Greener & Better Kolkata. This special programme was sponsored by Ernst & Young Foundation with the active support and participation of NEWS team and KMC. Sri. Swapan Samaddar, Mayor-in-Council, Dept. of Environment, KMC was present as one of the distinguished guests. The day was full of activities like cleaning the field, planting suitable plants to create a small butterfly garden at one side of the park, planting saplings of big tree species on the periphery and also fencing all the planted saplings for protection.
One of the prime objectives was to spread awareness among the urban society about necessity of protecting the greenery of this city to restore its natural environment.
