Sonneratia griffithii is a mangrove species listed as critically endangered (CR) in IUCN red list. NEWS took the initiative to plant more than 2,20,000 trees of this species in Sundarban outside protected area, which is still being protected along with other species of mangrove through a community participative approach. This was achieved under the Livelihoods Mangrove Afforestation, Reforestation & Restoration project which is still going on in Sundarban.
