Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) partnering with #AxisBankLimited, is implementing a mangrove afforestation project in Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu by involving the community. To observe “#InternationalDayofTropics”, NEWS team organized an event on the June 29, 2024 at #VanagiriGovernmentSchool. The event included awareness sessions for school students on mangrove ecosystem and their role in mitigating climate change which was followed up by a rally walk, with students holding placards, all the way up to the mangrove plantation site. A signboard unveiling ceremony also took place in Vanagiri village which was attended by the representatives of Vanagiri panchayat, school students, and community members. The students showed great enthusiasm throughout the event. The event was also covered on several regional news channels and in local daily newspapers
