Conserving the ‘Vulnerable’ Fishing Cat population and its habitats in the Ramsar Site at East Kolkata Wetlands with the Community Stewardship Model

Location: Tardah village, Tardaha Kapasati Gram Panchayat, Block -Bhangar I, District – South Twenty-Four Parganas

Objectives: Improvement of conservation status of Fishing Cat and associated wetland biodiversity in Kolkata through evidence-based habitat management and community-led stewardship. The project will pursue the following objectives:

1. To assess the encounter rates and habitat preferences of the Fishing Cat using non-invasivemethods.
2. To aware local communities to take ownership of conservation efforts through environmental stewardship, ensuring the long-term sustainability of conservation initiatives and providing simultaneous benefits to local communities.
