We are deeply honoured that Ms Ajanta Dey, Joint Secretary and Programme Director of the Nature Environment and Wildlife Society (NEWS), was felicitated by the Department of Tourism, Government of West Bengal, and the South 24 Parganas District Administration for her commitment and dedication to mangrove conservation.
The felicitation took place on 26 July 2026 at Taj Ganga Kutir, Raichak, during the celebration of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem (World Mangrove Day).

For more than two decades, Ajanta Dey has been closely engaged in the conservation of the Sundarban and its fragile ecosystems. Her work has contributed to strengthening a community stewardship approach to mangrove conservation and restoration, with local communities—particularly women and youth—playing an active role in protecting, restoring, and nurturing these vital ecosystems.
At NEWS, we believe that lasting conservation is possible only through collective action, collaboration, and synergistic efforts. This recognition inspires us to continue working together with communities, government agencies, partners, and all those committed to safeguarding the Sundarban.
