Rehabilitation of jackals Present in Operational area of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Interntional Airport,Kolkata

Objectives: To identify the habitat, and movement of the population, capture the entire population and hand it over to the forest Department to relocate the animals captured in and around the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata. 
Outcomes: During the project tenure total 51 Jackal and 10 Jungle cats has been captured by the help of cages, camera traps and engaging a tribe from Tamil Nadu named ‘Narikureva’ whose name means ‘fox’ or ‘Jackal hunters’. They have been very much successful as they managed to capture 34 jackals and 3 jungle cats in 30 days period in 2 slots, while cage traps managed to capture 17 jackals and 7 jungle cats in 22 months. All the captured animals were transferred to the Forest Department unharmed to be released in wild habitat. The total operational area was free from the jackal and the other wildlife menace.
