The Short-tailed Shearwater (Ardenna tenuirostris), IUCN status- Least Concern, was sighted at the Bidyadhari River near Gosaba (22°10’19” N, 88°47’48” E), today morning on 1st June 2021 around 10.50 AM. The Short-tailed Shearwater is a pelagic migrant that breeds in Tasmania and off the coast of southern Australia. The first photographic evidence of the Short-tailed Shearwater from India was recorded on 27th April 2013 by Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) https://indianbirds.in/…/IB8.5.GiriETAL… However, sightings of this bird have been reported afterwards and perhaps they visit Sundarban during this time of the year.
