A two day workshop titled “Visioning and Engagement workshop: Initiating a partnership for healthy mangroves, thriving coastal communities and a robust aquaculture value chain in the Sundarbans: India, Bangladesh and beyond” was held on 3rd and 4th, February, 2020 at the Taj Bengal, Kolkata. The primary objective of the workshop was to understand the context and scope of the Multi-stakeholder project (MSP) and create a resonance & a creative visioning process for mangroves, coastal communities and a robust aquaculture value chain and building trust and a container for change in respect of collective action in Sundarban. Different stakeholders, including the Departments of Forests & Environment, a clutch of private sector enterprises involved in the creation and promotion of the shrimp value chain, like Bluesensus , Blue Sea Aquaculture took part in the workshop. Also present were apex ICAR research institutes like CIBA, CIFE, State Biodiversity Board, officials from the Govt. of West Bengal. Among the key participants, representatives from project partners- Global Nature Fund (GNF), Naturland e.V., Bangladesh Environment and Development Society(BEDS) and Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS- India) took active part in the workshop. The workshop sought to define and lay out the vision and engagement statement in the context of Sundarban. The workshop was a part of the project “Multi-stakeholder Partnership (MSP) to strengthen transformative processes in shrimp trade as a basis for the protection of mangrove ecosystems in South Asia”.
