A three-day training programme on “Post-Harvest Management (Preservation & Processing) in Brackishwater Aquaculture” was jointly organized by ICAR – Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Kolkata Centre and Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) for the SAIME farmers of Indian Sundarban from the 29th of April 2024 to 1st of May 2024 to capacitate them on the key aspects of post-harvest management of shrimps and fin fishes.
Farmers from Chaital and Madhabpur SAIME sites including representatives from Badabon Farmers’ Producer Company Limited (BFPCL) actively participated in this training programme, which included several insightful theoretical and practical sessions, covering various important topics ranging from preservation and processing techniques of aquaculture products to preparation of value-added fish products and packaging. The sessions were ably facilitated by experts and resource persons from the field of post-harvest management. An exposure visit to a fish processing unit was also arranged for the participants, which helped to gain a hands-on experience on the stages involved of fish and shrimp processing, including its preservation methods.
The program concluded with a valedictory session where the participants expressed their sincere gratitude, emphasizing the invaluable insights they gained for enhancing their skills in managing the post-harvest management of aquaculture produce. Certificates were distributed to acknowledge and encourage the participants.
