The project focuses on mangrove restoration, taking place on mudflats. Activities to be done before and during the plantation include meetings for the women’s groups on nursery preparation and planting techniques. Total 10,000 mangrove saplings will be nurtured in the local nursery by the women group/local community. Species suitability will be assessed after analysing the relevant physicochemical parameters, like pH, salinity etc. In the first year, the main focus for mangrove restoration is towards stabilization of the planted area i.e. taking into account the survivability, pest infestation etc. while from the second year, the general growth and succession of the mangrove colonization is taken care of by noting the natural regeneration process too.
