‘ECO PARK: A BIRDING DESTINATION AND ITS FLORA’  ‘Eco Park: a birding destination and its flora’, a workshop on the flora and birds of Eco Park was organised at Pakhi Bitan, Eco Park on Thursday afternoon, in the presence of Mr. Debashis Sen, Chairman , WBHIDCO; other senior officials of NKDA; members of Nature mates and NEWS. Students from Environmental Science Department, University of Calcutta and members from other NGOs also participated in the workshop.  The event started with inauguration of ‘A promotional tool towards non-caging of wild birds’ by WBHIDCO Chairman, Mr. Debashis Sen at Pakhi Bitan which was followed by releasing caged birds and butterflies in their natural habitat. Ms. Ajanta Dey, Joint Secy, Nature Environment & Wildlife Society(NEWS) delivered the Key Note address on the importance of development of urban parks and the need for sustainable coexistence with nature. Mr. Arjan Basu Roy, Secretary of Nature Mates, who is an expert on butterflies and has been working on creating several butterfly gardens in Salt Lake, New town and other areas gave a presentation on the ‘Flora of Eco Park’.   Sri Debashish Sen, Chairman, WBHIDCO, outlined his plans for the Eco Park which include some very interesting ideas. The Eco Park drew its inspiration from the Five Senses Garden developed in Delhi, a very original idea. It is a matter of pride that the Eco Park has now evolved into a fine urban park from just a patch of wastelands.  Mr. Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, founder and Secy, Nature Environment of Wildlife Society, gave a presentation on Easy steps to identify birds. Mr. Pradyut Choudhury, who has been doing serious work on birds & ecology at New Town and is also a renowned photographer, gave a presentation on the ‘Birds of Eco Park’. His presentation helped us get acquainted with the local birds that reside at the Eco Park.   A small interactive quiz was conducted by Ajanta Dey for the students on the flora and birds of Eco Park and it was met with great enthusiasm.  #HIDCO #ECOPARK #BIRDSOFECOPARK #FLORAOFECOPARK #PAKHIBITAN
