11 - May - 2023
A 4-day exposure visit to Andaman was held from 27th April to 30th April under the supervision of Nature Environment and Wildlife Society and in collaboration with Terre des Hommes. A total of 12 members of the West Bengal Youth Network participated in this educational visit arranged by ANET – Andaman Nicobar Environment Team and Dakshin Endeavours . Through this experiential learning programme, the students gained a deeper understanding of the natural history, ecology and culture of this enigmatic coastal environment.
Through various activities like scuba diving, kayaking and bird-watching, the group was able to observe the flora and fauna underwater as well as the mangroves of the Andamans, learning the unique functions of these species, the interrelationships within this ecosystem and the difference between the mangroves of the Sundarbans and the Andamans. Several endemic birds of Andaman were seen such as Andaman Kukal, Whimbrel, Andaman Bulbul and others. In another session, the group also learnt about the Andamans’ waste management and segregation model.
