Black Tiger Shrimps: a product of Integrated Mangrove Aquaculture (IMA) from ‘Farm to Fork’ In a single day of the new moon lunar cycle phase, around 18.4 kg of Black Tiger Shrimps were harvested by few farmers of Chaital who are practising Integrated Mangrove Aquaculture, a chemical-free, ecosystem-based and sustainable aquaculture under the project, “Sustainable Aquaculture in Mangrove Eco-system (SAIME)” supported by BMZ, German Cooperation, Global Nature Fund and partnering with Naturland and Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS). The farmers sold their harvest to Badabon Farmers’ Producer Company Limited (BFPCL), also known as ‘Badabon Harvest’, a company formed by the marginal farmers of Sundarban and realized a higher price in comparison to the local aggregators. An initiative was taken to strengthen and form a community-governed value chain for better profit realization along with mangrove conservation….. The shrimps were then taken to the ‘Sufal Bangla’ store and processed. They were finally packed in boxes for preservation and delivery.
