We take this opportunity inform that NEWS is going to participate in the 11th Edition of India and Sustainability Standards (ISS), an International Dialogue and Conference, scheduled on the November 13-15, 2024, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Organized by the Centre for Responsible Business (CRB), ISS 2024 will explore the theme “Sustainability 2.0: Leveraging Opportunities, Balancing Trade-offs, and Navigating Pitfalls,” a theme that aligns seamlessly with our work in building coastal resilience through community stewardship.

As one of the key highlight of the event, NEWS will co-host a session on November 15 titled “Beyond Plantations: Synergies for Healthy Mangroves, Thriving Coastal Communities, and Robust Value Chains – Lessons from the Sundarbans.” which will aim to explore the importance of integrated approaches to mangrove conservation that go beyond plantation efforts, fostering sustainable, community-led stewardship. The session will emphasize NEWS’s comprehensive “Mangrove Stewardship” model, which integrates environmental conservation with economic and social empowerment, ultimately strengthening coastal resilience and fostering long-term sustainability.

The event will also see the active participation of Badabon Harvest, a Farmer Producer Company (FPC) from the Sundarbans, owned by the Sundarban farmers and formed under the patronization of NEWS, sharing the transformative case studies of community-led mangrove conservation and sustainable livelihoods.

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with Sundarbans farmers directly and experience firsthand a variety of local products from the region.

NEWS aims to build a strong national dialogue on ‘Mangrove Stewardship’ at ISS, advocating for a connected approach to resource mobilization and community empowerment as the foundation of resilient coastal ecosystems and sustainable value chains.
