Shri Bankim Chandra Hazra, Honourable Minister in Charge, Sundarban Affairs Development, inaugurated a community-owned Ecotourism Center at Kumirmari on 29 August 2023 in the gracious presence of Mr. Harsimran Singh, ADM (LA) South 24 Parganas, and other high officials from Sundarban Development Board, Sundarban Tiger Reserve, Jila Parishad members, and local Panchayet members. All delegates visited the ecotourism facilities and discussed with the Board of Directors of Kumirmari Ecotourism Private Limited and the community members associated with the Ecotourism initiative. Nature Environment and Wildlife Society in cooperation with tdh Germany has taken an initiative to establish community governance in order to produce a regular and varied source of income by establishing community-based ecotourism in Kumirmari.
