ENGAGE & HOLD HANDS TO REBUILD!

Cyclone ‘Amphan’ hit Sundarban, when it is also COVID pandemic time –

It has happened on 20th May, 2020 and left thousands of houses battered; betel vines, traditional paddy storehouses in shambles; rice fields, vegetable gardens, fish ponds levelled; embankments breached and saline ingress threatening all that have been built over years with hard labour, pain and much effort.

Many of them protect forests voluntarily, cultivate with natural processes, engage in sustainable fish farming – trying to protect the mangrove bio-shield, keep the nutrients in the soil growing, restore the balance between conservation and development, for human wellbeing.

They need our support now. They are in unbelievable pain. But they are steeling their resolve. To recreate, to rebuild, brick by brick.

NEWS can be beside them, if you wish to be with them.

They need Tarpaulins, dry food, packaged water, carry mats, solar lights, candles, match boxes, bleaching powders and more such immediately.

In the long run, they need to build pucca houses, revive their agricultural practice; engage the youths, males who return home from other states in creating livelihood around natural resources in a sustainable way; to build resilience and live with dignity.

We would like you to engage with them in your capacities – holding their hands resolutely.
