Mother Earth provides us with everything that we need for living and therefore, we must reciprocate by caring her with all our efforts. It is essential to keep and reinforce the relationship with #nature at every moment. On this #World Environment Day, it’s time to devote for nature. Keeping this year’s theme in mind, which focuses on #Ecosystem Restoration, as only functioning ecosystems can mitigate the climate change effect, reduce indiscrimate loss of biodiversity and thus assuring #sustainable #livelihoods, the NEWS team members of Kurseong WBADMI(West Bengal Accelerated Development of Minor Irrigation, Govt. of West Bengal) project, celebrated World Environment Day 2021 on 5th June by organizing a tree #plantation drive at Gumba Gaon village of Sittong-I, a landslide prone area, with objectives to stop soil erosion, landslide and restore ecological balance. Enthusiast villagers had actively participated in this planation programme and appreciated such nature saving initiative. Around 40 different plant saplings including Alnus Nepalensis (Uttis), Castanopsis tribuloides (Katus), Cryptomeria japonica (Dhuppi), Duabanga grandiflora (Lampatay) Machilus gammieana (Chiplay Kaulo), Prunus puddum/cerasoides (Payun) Schima wallichii (chilawnay) Camelia (tea), etc. were planted at roadside of the village.   On this auspicious occasion, let us pledge to come together to plant more and more trees and spread greenery and engage ourselves passionately in making Earth a greener place to live. We must come together to protect and save our planet to make it a healthier and happier place to live for our generations to come.
