Nestled in the valley of the Brahmaputra River in India’s Assam region, Deepor Beel – meaning ‘The Lake of the Elephants’ in Assamese language – is a permanent lake that serves as a vital resource for both wildlife and local communities. The lake is home to thousands of migratory birds and resident waterfowl, as well as elephants, making it a gem for nature lovers. But many threats are looming over the wetland and putting its future at risk.
Recognised as a Ramsar Site and Important Bird and Biodiversity Area, it’s high time to protect and restore this precious ecosystem. That’s why our partners from Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) will work to engage all stakeholders in the development of an Integrated Management Plan, as part of the Living Lakes Biodiversity and Climate Project.
Together, we can ensure a healthy future for Deepor Beel and for all lakes around the world! Find out more: https://livinglakes.org/deepor-beel/
