We were honoured to have our Joint Secretary & Programme Director, Ms. Ajanta Dey, represent NEWS at the #LivelihoodsRendezVous 2025 — a global dialogue hosted under the theme “Pre-#COP30: Private Investment for Climate, Nature & Rural Communities.”
As a panelist in “Field Insights to Make the Voluntary Carbon Market Work for Rural Communities,” Ms. Dey shared NEWS’s on-ground experience from India’s Sundarban — where nature-based, community-led restoration models have turned vulnerable landscapes into resilient ecosystems.
Her intervention emphasized that while carbon markets continue to expand, farmers and local communities must remain central to the conversation — as the true custodians of nature and climate resilience.
“Climate finance can be transformative only when it reaches those restoring ecosystems with their hands — not just their investments,” she noted, drawing from NEWS’s two decades of field experience.
The session brought together diverse voices — from the private sector, sustainability leaders, and community representatives — united by a shared goal: to make carbon finance more inclusive, transparent, and equitable.
NEWS extends gratitude to @Livelihoods Venture and fellow panelists from Gold Standard, Hermès International, and others for fostering such a meaningful dialogue ahead of COP30.
🌱 We remain committed to advancing community-centered climate action and nature-based solutions that place people and ecosystems at the heart of sustainable development.
