Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS), the implementing partner of the #internationalclimateinitiative (IKI) – BMUV supported #livinglakesbiodiversityandclimateproject, observed Earth Day at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan M. E. School, Chakardo, Guwahati on 22nd April 2024. The event focusing on the significance of this year’s theme – “Planet vs Plastics”, featured engaging interactive sessions and a quiz competition involving the school students. Small gifts and presents were also distributed among the students to encourage and appreciate their participation. The programme aimed towards inspiring the young minds to learn, discuss, and take action for minimizing the use of plastics and creating a sustainable future.
On April 22nd, 2024, Nature Environment and Wildlife Society (NEWS) celebrated #EarthDay at Sharda Sahayak Pariyojna Inter College in Girjapuri, #KatarniaghatWildlifeSanctuary. The event, themed ‘#PlanetvsPlastics‘, saw 31 school students actively engaging in activities to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic pollution. Through various hands-on exercises such as drawing contests, talks, and interactive discussions, participants explored ways to combat plastic waste and its impact on the #environment. Officials from the State Forest Department also joined the programme adding valuable insights, emphasizing on the significance of #environmentalconservation. The event served as a platform for students to learn, share ideas, and commit to actions that contribute to a #sustainablefuture for all. The event was also published in the local regional newspaper.
At Kumirmari, Hingalganj and Sagar Islands this year’s theme – “Planet vs Plastic”, a total of 88 eco club members from these three areas, actively participated, showcasing their deep dedication and commitment to forging a greener, cleaner future.
The young eco-club members in their exhibition, displayed insightful posters and images, highlighting the sources and the types of plastics (recyclable and non-recyclable) and its grading system, and the environmental impact of plastics on ecosystems and biodiversity.
Aimed towards creating awareness among the local community, the eco-club members demonstrated innovative products prepared by them as alternatives to plastics like eco-friendly sugarcane plates; recycled paper products like notebooks and bookmarks; paper pens and pencils; as well as wooden toothbrushes and combs to encourage reduced plastic usage and adopt a sustainable lifestyle.
Clay models from Kumirmari showcasing Sundarban biodiversity, Innovative pen stands, flower vases, and plastic-made bangles from Sagar, and Gamcha bags from Hingalganj drew special attraction of the visitors, who also had the opportunity to interact with our dynamic and vibrant eco-warriors – the future leaders of a safer and greener future…………
