Anicut dam of Paschim Midnapore is one of the 75 designated Water Heritage Structures identified by Ministry of Jal Shakti. Originally built under the British rule in the year of 1871, currently maintained by the Irrigation & Waterways Department, Government of West Bengal. A plantation drive was organized by Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India in association with Irrigation & Waterways Department, Government of West Bengal for promoting ecological sustainability & environmental rejuvenation under the ‘Travel for LiFE’ mission. Nature Environment & Wildlife Society with volunteers from the Yuva Tourism Clubs of local schools and Government officials, joined hands to draw attention to safeguard water resources and encouraging environmental stewardship.
