Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) conducted a hands-on demonstration on Jeevaamrit preparation and application with farmers at Borbari, Azara, near Deepor Beel, Guwahati. The session aimed to promote biodiversity-friendly and sustainable agricultural practices and encourage farmers to reduce dependence on chemical inputs.
The demonstration introduced farmers to Jeevaamrit, a low-cost natural nutrient enhancer prepared using locally available ingredients such as cow dung, cow urine, gram flour (besan), jaggery, soil and water. The NEWS team explained the preparation process, including mixing the ingredients and allowing the formulation to ferment for 48 hours. Farmers were also encouraged to prepare Jeevaamrit themselves for use in their agricultural fields.
Discussions focused on the benefits of natural nutrient enhancers, soil health, and the potential impacts of excessive chemical fertilizer and pesticide use on soil, water quality and the biodiversity of the Deepor Beel ecosystem.
The session reinforced the importance of promoting eco-friendly farming practices and strengthening local capacity for sustainable agriculture.
