Protecting the Embankments through Mangrove Plantation: A Conscious Approach for Climate Resilience

26 - Apr - 2022

Around 46,266 mangrove saplings were planted in a multi-species model at Chakfuldubi char under Muriganga-2 Gram Panchayat of Sagar block. 283 community members took up this aspiring mission of planting mangroves for the protection of their earthen embankment from natural disasters. The plantation activities lasted for 5 days.   This initiative was undertaken by Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) with the active support from the Water Resources and Investigation Development Department, Government of West Bengal under the West Bengal Accelerated Development of Minor Irrigation Project (WBADMIP).   This initiative is setting a breakthrough for the integration of nature-based solutions to combat the rising threats of climate change which is persistent in the Sundarban region in the form of cyclones, floods, and inundation.  #ClimateChange #Sundarban #Sustainability #CommunityConservation #environment #nature #globalwarming #savetheplanet #UNFCCC #climate #climatecrisis #ecofriendly #climateaction #zerowaste #sustainable #earth #gogreen #climatechangeisreal #plasticfree #green #sustainableliving #climateemergency #recycle #eco #pollution #climatejustice #climatestrike #reuse #conservation #noplanetb #plasticpollution #biodiversity #wildlife #cop
