Stakeholders consultation workshop at Guwahati, Assam

NEWS, under its Living lakes Biodiversity and Climate Project, organized a one-day Stakeholders consultation workshop in The Ornate hotel at Guwahati, Assam on 6th Feb 2023 to discuss the causes of ecosystem degradation and natural resource loss in Deepor Beel and possible solutions. The Divisional Forest Officer (Guwahati Wildlife Division), Representatives from GIZ, Assam Tourism Development Corporation, ASTEC, 7 Weaves, The Midway journey, Diya Foundation, BNHS, Guwahati University, Student from TISS, Community leaders and Fishermen cooperatives from villages around Deepor Beel participated in this workshop. The session was conducted under the aegis of Dr Anwaruddin Choudhury, the veteran wildlifer and ornithologist from Assam, as advisor to the project. The discussion was very informative as every participant spoke about their experiences and gave valuable inputs to understand the scope of work and address the challenges in stakeholder mobilization around Deepor beel.
