Jute pouches are bio-degradable and thus more eco-friendly. Besides, the jute fibres are strong, coarse, and provide organic, low thermal conductivity, and a heat-resistant base for the saplings to anchor and absorb nutrients from the soil. Jute is also a locally available resource in the southern part of West Bengal. Hence, jute pouches are promoted often as carrier bags for nursery saplings. Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) has been capacitating women to make these jute pouches as per the required size for quite a long time. As a part of developing the mangrove nursery, the women group of Buraburir Tot, G-plot, South 24 Parganas have stitched 12,000 pouches which will be used for sowing the mangrove seeds. As the saplings will grow, they will be directly planted with the jute pouch on the soil. The jute will degrade gradually into the soil generating zero waste. #globalwarming #climatecrisis #sustainability #everytreematters #climateresilience #Sundarban #Mangroves #noplastic #reuse #plasticfree #savetheplanet #zerowaste #environment #ecofriendly #climateaction #naturebasedsolution #traditionalknowledge #sustainabledesign #Community #bethechange #gogreen
