“An owl had fallen from a tree, someone had hit it with a slingshot”….. this was the message conveyed to the project manager stationed at one of our project sites of the Human elephant conflict mitigation project at Valmiki Tiger Reserve, Gamhariya Village. The message was very clear, thus the Project Manager, Abhishek along with a Tiger tracker, Prakash rushed to the site to rescue the bird. The information was correct. It was a large owl identified as a mottled wood owl (Strix ocellata) that had fallen and got strangled in its wings. The project manager, Abhishek who has been doing rescues for a long time and had taken the initiative to rescue the bird so that it should not suffer more injuries and safely taken back to the field office. After closely examining the bird, multiple ruptures of tissue and wounds infected with ants were observed. In this pandemic time as all medical shops were closed the team used local remedies of turmeric and lime paste cooked in mustard oil. The condition of the bird is stable and after the recovery, it will be set free to spread its wings and soar to its wilderness. We are proud of the team and its leader. #birdrescue #nature #localremedies #owl #mottedwoodowl
