The #GlobalRecyclingDay, observed annually on the March of 18th, aims to raise awareness and encourage people to take action to reduce waste. Throughout the world, this day brings together individuals, organizations, and governments to promote sustainable practices. The theme for this year’s edition was #RecyclingHeroes. To mark this occasion, Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) organized a programme where 52 eco club members of Sagar, Kumirmari, and Hingalganj of Sundarban, came forward to celebrate the day by recycling waste materials in their localities. They collected mainly plastic, paper, and glass wastes from their home and neighborhood and recycled them into useful items like pen stands, flower vases, bangles, room decor, flower pots, wall hangings, etc. One eco-club member from Sagar made a stylus using a discarded use and throw pen, copper wire, and cotton. Kumirmari Eco-club members made beautiful showpieces using emptied glass containers, boxes and clay. The members of the eco-club also raised awareness in the community by explaining the harmful effects of plastic trash in the Sundarban ecosystem and how by changing our habits and adopting alternatives of plastic will help to reduce the plastic waste.
NEWS appreciates the efforts of these eco-club members who are actually the true “Recycling Heroes” championing for cause of a sustainable, safer, and a green planet.
