A value chain working group meeting of SAIME (Sustainable Aquaculture in Mangrove Ecosystem) was organized at the NEWS office on October 3rd, 2023. Keeping the importance of transformative value-chain in the context of Indian Sundarban in mind, the working group meeting was organized where two noted value-chain experts Mr. Venkatesh Salagrama, FAO consultant, and Mr. Soumitra Chakraborty, CEO, Marine Business, IFB Agro Industries Limited, delivered lectures on the topics “Opportunities for Value Chain Transformations in the Small-Scale Fisheries of the Sundarbans” and “Scope for branding of SAIME shrimps in the domestic market”. The session was chaired by Dr. Dipankar Saha, Former Scientist, Nimpith Krishi Vigyan Kendra. At the very onset, of the meeting Ms. Ajanta Dey, joint secretary and the programme director of NEWS gave the welcome address and briefed on the context of the meeting. The meeting came out with some important recommendations for developing the transformative value chain. The meeting concluded with a formal vote of thanks from Sri. Milon Sinha from the NEWS SAIME team.
