World Elephant Day 2022

12 - Aug - 2022

Elephants and humans have come a long way together throughout the history of civilization. However, in the present times, habitat loss and fragmentation have led to negative interactions between humans and elephants. Incidents such as crop raiding, elephant attacks, injuries, and death of humans and elephants have become common. This day, the 12th of August 2022, marked as World Elephant Day looks forward to conserving and safeguarding elephants from the multiple threats they face. To celebrate this day, under the Human – Elephant Conflict (GNF-HEC) mitigation project, supported by Global Nature Fund and implemented by Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) at Valmiki Tiger Reserve, a programme was organized at the Gurukul Academy at Genhariya village of Maguraha range, where a PowerPoint presentation was shown to the children on elephant ecology followed by an interactive session with the students. A total of 48 students were present at the programme to understand the behavioral ecology and land use of elephants. #WorldElephantDay2022 #GentleGiants #GlobalNatureFund #NABU #SIKA #Coexistence #Awareness #Elephants #Conservation #Wildife #Nature #ValmikiTigerReserve
