World Wetlands Day 2026 | Awareness Programme

On 2nd February, 2026, NEWS, in partnership with Axis Bank Pvt. Ltd., organised an Awareness Programme to celebrate World Wetlands Day 2026, across four sites: SahapurVillage (North 24 Parganas), Lakshmipur Village (South 24 Parganas), Dakshin SurendraganjVillage (South 24 Parganas) and Gobardhanpur Village (South 24 Parganas). The programme saw enthusiastic participation from children, youth, and local communities, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in wetland conservation.

Open, community-participatory quizzes on wetland restoration and biodiversity conservation were conducted, engaging school-going children aged 4–18 as well as local youth, and encouraging shared learning and dialogue.

Traditional games like “Gaadi Khela” were organised at Sahapur Village, engaging children and community members and adding a cultural dimension that fostered intergenerational bonding and community spirit.

Awareness Rallies, led by the NEWS team along with community members and children, echoed powerful slogans on wetland conservation, spreading strong messages of environmental responsibility and collective action throughout the villages.

Altogether, more than 300 people participated in the awareness programme, making it a truly impactful and inclusive initiative. NEWS extends its sincere gratitude to all participants for their active involvement and commitment to fostering environmental stewardship.
