On the 5th of October 2023, the Alipore Zoo authority, in collaboration with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau and Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS), came together for a remarkable celebration of World Wildlife Week.
The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, Secretary of NEWS, who shared insightful thoughts on the significance of World Wildlife Week.
Our wildlife wing’s dedicated staff, alongside esteemed guests like Dr. Shubhankar Sengupta, Director of Alipore Zoological Garden, Mr. Abhijit Roy Chowdhury, Eastern Regional Deputy Director of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, and Mr. Subrata Pal Chowdhury, an immobilization expert, made the occasion truly special.
The highlight of the event was the engaging presentations by a field biologist of NEWS, Ms. Ranjana Saha on Freshwater Terrapin, Dolphins, and Otters, as well as a compelling talk by Dr. Saikat Manna, a field botanist of NEWS, on the importance of aquatic plants.
Adding to the enriching atmosphere, postgraduate students from the Environmental Science departments of the University of Calcutta, Ashutosh College, and Bangabashi College actively participated, bringing their enthusiasm and passion for wildlife conservation.
