MODIFIED EXTENSIVE POLYCULTURE AT SRINARAYANPUR BY THE WATER USERS ASSOCIATION (WUA) MEMBERS:

At Srinarayanpur in Patharpratima Block of South 24 Parganas, the WUA members have been practising modified extensive poly-culture of Indian Major Carp, Giant Freshwater Prawn, and other indigenous ichthyofauna for quite some time. The WUA members have been capacitated in maintaining the water quality parameters, pond preparation, and growth monitoring of the fishes. The harvested rainwater in WDS (Water Detention Scheme) has been utilized in the pisciculture. No undesired chemicals, hormones, or antibiotics are used. In the culture season of 2021-2022, the WUA members harvested 1, 492 kg (490 kg Scampi, 625 kg IMC, 377 kg Mourala, Tangra, Shole, etc) and have earned 3, 52, 400 INR. This venture has been taken up by Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) with active support from the Government of West Bengal under the West Bengal Accelerated Development of Minor Irrigation (ADMI) project which promotes a good aquaculture practice among the community.
