Stepping up and disseminating low-cost approaches to mitigating human-elephant conflicts in the border area between India and Nepal

Funded by: Global Nature Fund (GNF) together with Naturschutzbund Deutschland e.V. (NABU)

Project Duration: 15th October 2023 – 14th October 2026

The project is implemented on the ground with strong technical support from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Nepal and India. It was proposed to strengthen cross-border coordination to achieve sustainable results by organising bi-annual cross-country meetings at EPG level and annual meetings with ministry stakeholders and multipliers to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project. The integration of women in the EPGs and their active role in the human-elephant conflict was well understood by the project team in the first phase.

Project Objective:

Improve the security and livelihood of local people by promoting harmonious coexistence between humans and Asian elephants in the border area between India and Nepal (SDG 15, SDG 17, SDG 2)
