Awareness Generation program on Snakes at Kumirmari Vallage

27Jun

Snakes are the most common danger for the village community of the Sundarban.  Abundance of snakes at Kumirmari village is also quite high, but common people have little knowledge about venomous and non venomous snakes. Out of fear, villagers kill snakes indiscriminately which is reducing snake diversity and density. There is a huge knowledge gap for preparedness and response for snake bite incidences which leads to fatal death of snake bite victims. At Kumirmari Village, Gosaba Block in collaboration with Canning Juktibadi Sanskritik Sanstha, Nature Environment and Wildlife Society (NEWS) organized an awareness generation campaign on Snake on 27th and 28th June, 2018 at Kumirmari Budhbarer bazar and Kumirmari bazar respectively. Local people participated in the program to know about the snake, snakebites and emergency care of victim. An appeal to the local community was made for conservation of snakes.
