Over 750 Parakeets and 18 Hill Mynahs have been rescued by the Forest Department from a truck at Panagarh on Wednesday (30.09.2020) morning. The truck, laden with the hapless birds, was coming from Hazaribagh & Patna. Two of the miscreants have been taken into custody. Sri Kalyan Das Conservator of Forests (South East) said that the birds were being smuggled to Kolkata during the Puja season.
The Forest officials conducted a night long raid to apprehend the smugglers. The birds were tightly packed in polythene packets to prevent any sound.
The State Forest Minister, Sri Rajib Banerjee has lauded this prompt action of the Forest officials.
We salute the honest and untiring efforts of the Forest Department officials who remain committed to their principles.
