A full day training programme on Disaster Risk Reduction was organised at the NEWS office at Kumirmari to train village youths on 13 July, 2018. The objective of the program was to understand the concept of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and related issues. It was also to facilitate discussions on problem faced earlier during disaster, the methods of prevention, define and differentiate various terminologies of disaster management with appropriate examples. Disaster Management Professionals, Mr. Debojyoti Chakraborty and Mr. Kousik Roy Chowdhury were the resource persons of the training course. The basic understanding on the concept of DISASTER was imparted through interactive sessions taking stock of the disasters that occurred in the past 10 years in the Sundarban region. Vulnerability as one of the most important areas of concern post disaster, its implication on human life and dignity were also part of the training in order to make the participants aware about their roles. As the 3 main reasons of Disaster are HAZARD, VULNERABILITY, and INSUFFICIENT CAPACITY, it is very important to build the capacity of communities & individuals in order to minimize the loss or damage. An Assessment of Risks/Hazards in participation with the community members is necessary and also a mandate.
